Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement.  It comes ten days after Rosh Hashanah. The High Holy Days begin with Rosh Hashanah and culminate with Yom Kippur. The High Holidays are a ten-day period of penitence and know as the Yomim hanura’im (the terrible days) or in English, the Ten Days of Repentance.

Yom Kippur is a day of fasting. In Israel, no driving is allowed from sundown the evening before Yom Kippur until the end of Yom Kippur day, at sunset. It is recommended, expected and respectful to refrain from barbecues, playing loud music, or boisterousness on this day.

Yom Kippur is a bank holiday. (*)
