Sukkot (also spelled Succah) comes four days after Yom Kippur ends. This festival lasts eight days and celebrates the gathering of the harvest.
As soon as Yom Kippur ends, the building of the Sukkah begins. The Sukkah is a small reed-covered hut that commemorates the days spent in Biblical harvest time. During the week of Sukkot, meals are to be taken in the Sukkah. Children delight in decorating the Sukkah each year.
Friends are often invited to share meals in the “Sukkah.”
The first day of Sukkot is a bank holiday.*
