Rosh Hashanna

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and marks the beginning of the four fall festivals.

This is a time of solemn evaluation and personal scrutiny. It is a Day of Remembrance, looking back at the past year as well as forward to the new one. It is a holiday of subdued joyfulness.

People wish each other “Shana Tova’’ – Good Year. New Year cards are often sent to friends and family, expressing good wishes for the coming year. It is customary to give a small cash gift to the service providers in your life.

Appropriate gifts when invited to celebrate would be sweet dishes or flowers.

Rosh Hashana is a bank holiday. (*)
