Heating and Air Conditioning

Israel is on a similar line of latitude as San Diego. Tel Aviv is a city on the Mediterranean coast, which generally acts as a cooling agent in the summer months. Temperatures may exceed 32-35°C (90-95°F) with high humidity near the sea. During the night, it can become uncomfortable and humid, so most homes will be air-conditioned, although it usually cools down in the evening.

In the winter, the temperature is usually between 12°C and 21° (55° and 70°F) during the day and in between 5°C and 10°C (high 40°F’s) in the evening. However, when it rains, it does get chilly. Generally, most people have heaters as a part of the air-conditioning (called reverse cycle) or space heaters for the winter months of December, January, and February.

In Israel, most homes have solar-powered boilers (dude shemesh), but some apartments do not. In any case the electric hot water heater or boiler (‘dude’) should be turned on before bathing on cloudy days. Please remember to turn off your AC and boiler when you leave your apartment or house.
